Training Course on the Establishment of National OceanDataPortal nodes in the Black Sea region (ODINBlackSea) for Georgian and Turkish NODCs, Istanbul, Turkey, 21 - 23 December 2009
FIRST IOC/WESTPAC Training Course on Ocean Data Portal, Seoul, Republic of Korea, 31 August - 4 September 2009
Subject
of this training course was to establish ODP nodes in ODINWESTPAC region. 10
participants from Korea, Japan, Malaysia,
Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand were attending this
training course. Data centres were asked to prepare information on the data to
be provided into the ODP as well as technical information about the potential
hardware & software where the Data Provider software will be plugged. This
information will be used to help organizations prevent potential technical
problems while installing Data Provider and data source connection. First day
was mostly dedicated to the theoretical issues – ODP technology history and
status, software components, Light Data Provider functionality and possibilities.
Practical tasks were splitted on Data Provider v.1.1.5 installation, complex
setup and resource creation based on test data. Seven practical tasks were
completed by trainees: resources construction from database, data files and
object files, resource maintenance and support, metadata life-cycle and
resource creation from the participants data. Vietnam,
Japan and Indonesia
provided their data. Finally 35 information resources from 10 Data Providers
were successfully connected to the local Ocean Data Portal (installed on the
trainer laptop). Outcome of this training course – participants can personally
make Data Provider software installation and setup, metadata registration from
all supported sources – SQL-like database, structured data files (CSV, TSV, plain,
etc.) and unstructured object data files. List of supported operational systems
